IES Mencey Acaymo de Güímar Students Trained in Cabo Green Through Archipelago Collaboration

Students participating in the rescue and lifeguard training course at IES Mencey Acaymo, located in the municipality of Güímar, Tenerife, have embarked on a training programme on the island of Sal, Cabo Verde. This initiative aims to foster knowledge exchange among professionals in this field across Macaronesia, thereby strengthening educational ties between the two archipelagos.

The project commenced on May 8 and will continue for one week, spearheaded by educators Mónica Rodríguez and Antonio Rodríguez.

The idea originated last September, with the goal of connecting future lifeguard professionals from both regions through a unique combination of training, human interaction, and cultural exchange.

This partnership has been made feasible, as both educators emphasise, through the support and coordination of Hedercio Gómez, the head of security on Sal, along with the involvement of Jorge Cólogan, the representative of the Canary Islands Government in Cabo Verde, who has played a crucial role in the development and logistics of this international venture.

“Beyond the technical elements, this project offers a significant opportunity for the students of IES Mencey Acaymo. It enhances their professional skills while allowing them to experience another culture, share working methodologies, and establish lasting cooperative relationships with their Cape Verdean counterparts,” remarked the project coordinator.

Through initiatives like this, IES Mencey Acaymo reaffirms its dedication to holistic education, rooted in academic excellence, intercultural dialogue, and solidarity among communities.
