Last Thursday, the Hospiten Sur University Hospital marked its 40th anniversary with a formal event held at Magma Arte & Congresos in Adeje. This celebration was a tribute by the Hospiten Directorate to the evolution, dedication, and commitment exhibited by the hospital’s professionals and management teams.
Attending the event were Manuel Domínguez, the vice president of the Canary Islands government; Águeda Fumero, Minister of Social Action, Inclusion, and Volunteering at the Cabildo de Tenerife; and Fatima Lemes, the mayor of Arona, who expressed their support for the initiative.
The Executive President of Hospiten, Juan José Hernández Rubio, stated that the company’s philosophy has always centred on patient care, emphasizing the importance of looking after all individuals who visit any of their facilities. “Particularly, the team at Hospiten Sur University Hospital, comprised of over 500 highly skilled professionals, is distinguished by their technical expertise and human compassion, truly dedicated to the health and well-being of our patients,” he remarked.
“After four decades of dedication and commitment to enhance health services, I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for the daily efforts of all medical specialists and nursing professionals, as well as everyone who has been involved in our journey,” he noted. In this context, Hernández Rubio highlighted that these efforts have made the Hospiten Sur University Hospital a “symbol of innovation, quality, and international prestige.”

Commitment to Innovation
As part of the celebrations for the 40th anniversary of the facility located in Arona, Hospiten wanted to reaffirm its dedication to integrating innovation and technology in healthcare, thereby enhancing the well-being of individuals and ensuring quality service through a team of highly trained professionals.
“After four decades, innovation remains a hallmark of the Hospiten brand. This centre in the southern part of the island exemplifies our commitment, highlighted by the recent adoption of cutting-edge technology across various specialties to enhance diagnosis and patient experiences, reaffirming our pursuit of excellence and quality,” stated Pedro Luis Cobiella Beauvais, vice president and CEO of the company.
The refurbishment and modernisation of the facilities represent another key focus for the healthcare group, which has prioritised renovations in several areas and established new spaces aimed at improving the working conditions for health and administrative staff, as well as providing more efficient and comfortable services for patients.
Opening its doors in August 1984, the Hospiten Sur University Hospital serves both residents and tourists visiting the southern region of Tenerife. Its development has been characterised by continual evolution, and currently, the centre is undergoing significant changes and transformations. Recent renovations and expansions have taken place in various zones, including the Intensive Care Unit, the Digestive Endoscopy Unit, a new outpatient facility, emergencies, and the creation of a paediatric emergency space. Furthermore, plans are underway to commence refurbishment of the hospital’s façade in the coming weeks.

Upcoming Challenges
“Regarding future challenges, we aim to establish our brand as a synonym for well-being, innovation, and patient care in an increasingly globalised environment. Therefore, we will remain committed to our mission of providing high-quality healthcare,” concluded Cobiella Beauvais.
Since its establishment, Hospiten has broadened its reach beyond our borders, currently undergoing a vigorous international expansion, with hospitals located in Spain, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Jamaica, and Panama, sharing its model of health excellence across various regions worldwide.
