La Laguna Calls on Cabildo and Canary Government to Regulate Rental Cars in Anaga

The Plenary Assembly of the City Council of La Laguna on Tuesday endorsed a proposal from Drago Verdes Canarias, amended by CC and PSOE, with the abstention of Vox, urging the Cabildo de Tenerife and the Government of the Canary Islands to implement the necessary mechanisms and infrastructure to restrict access to Anag Quad and Buggie excursions, establishing a daily maximum quota.

The proposal further encompasses the continuation of the study on the management of the Park, initiated last year, promoting the utilisation of public transport — including that used by tourism companies — and establishing a working group to update the management plan for the Anaga Rural Park (PRUG).

Carmen Peña, the councillor for Drago Verdes Canarias, emphasised in a statement that this marks a “partial victory in initiating this commitment with the government team,” as its implementation will hinge on the “will” of CC and PSOE.

According to Peña, “as stated in the regulations for the use and management of the Anaga Rural Park, the City Council is obligated to undertake all feasible measures for its development and conservation, ensuring that tourism activities are balanced with the other activities conducted in the park, as well as with the everyday lives of the residents.”
