Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 1 May. (Press Europa) –
The Governing Council of the Cabildo de Tenerife has approved a specific contribution on Wednesday in favour of the Balten Public Society (Balsas de Tenerife) to finance the waterproofing and covering of the El Saltadero reservoir, located in the municipality of Granadilla.
The works will be executed under an agreement that the Cabildo established with the Government of the Canary Islands, whereby both authorities are providing funding for the project’s implementation, as clarified by the Minister for the Primary Sector, Valentín González, in a press release.
The overall investment amounts to 3,360,909.99 euros, allocated over two financial years: 2.5 million euros in 2025, and 860,909.99 euros in 2026.
Consequently, as decided in the Governing Council, the advance allocation for the 2025 financial year will enable “the acceleration of the work, which must be completed within a maximum period of 12 months.”
The advisor has characterised this initiative as “crucial for the storage of irrigation water in the south of the island.”
The El Saltadero reservoir, with a capacity of 457,811 cubic metres, along with the San Lorenzo reservoir (which holds 250,000 cubic metres), is vital for managing the regenerated waters of Valle San Lorenzo, serving an “essential” purpose: to provide the necessary flows for the irrigation of over 700 hectares of farmland during the summer months.
