Madrid/Santa Cruz de Tenerife 1 May. (Press Europa) –

The Canary Islands will experience periods of cloudiness, increasing to overcast during the mid-day, particularly in interior regions, where light and occasional rainfall cannot be dismissed. The skies are expected to clear in the afternoon. In the most eastern islands, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, the day will begin with cloudy spells, which will later develop into clearer skies after midday.

Meanwhile, temperatures will show little variation. The thermometers will read between a maximum of 25 degrees in Fuerteventura and a minimum of 12 degrees in El Hierro. Winds will blow gently to moderately from the Northwest, according to predictions from the State Meteorology Agency (Aemet).

In the rest of the country

The arrival and progression of a front associated with an Atlantic storm over the Peninsula will result in widespread rainfall this Friday, moving from south to north, affecting 13 autonomous communities with rain and storms.

Consequently, the following regions will be on alert for rain: Cádiz, Córdoba, Huelva, Jaén, Málaga, and Sevilla (Andalusia); Teruel and Zaragoza (Aragon); the Western and Eastern Asturian regions, Southwestern Asturian, Central and Mining Valleys, as well as the Cordillera and Picos de Europa (Principality of Asturias); Ávila, Burgos, León, Palencia, Salamanca, Segovia, Soria, and Zamora (Castilla y León); Castilla-La Mancha; Extremadura; and Galicia.

In addition to these areas, the Sierra de Madrid, Metropolitana and Henares, South, Vegas, and West (Community of Madrid); Altiplano and Northwest regions of Murcia (Region of Murcia); the Ribera del Ebro de la Rioja and Ibérica Riojana (La Rioja); Valencia (Valencian Community); and Ceuta will also be affected. All these locations, apart from the Community of Madrid, will be under storm warning as well, along the Cantabrian coast (Cantabria).

Aemet indicated that precipitation will be most significant in Atlantic and Cantabrian regions, especially around the Iberian system, where locally intense showers may occur, accompanied by storms and occasionally hail. In contrast, rainfall will be lighter and more dispersed in other areas, becoming less likely in the southeast and the Balearic region, where medium and high clouds will prevail, with a chance of calima. By day’s end, the skies are expected to clear, except in the western third and Mediterranean area.

Regarding temperatures, maximum values will generally decline, especially in the interior northeast and southwest, although there will be increases in Galicia, the Cantabrian area, Southeast Third, and the Balearic Islands. Moreover, minimum temperatures will experience a nearly widespread increase, particularly in the western third. Notably, the state agency has clarified that frost is not anticipated for the day.

Winds will generally be gentle to moderate, predominantly from the east, although the southern component will prevail throughout the day, with very strong gusts anticipated along the North Galician coast, the southwest of the peninsula, the Pyrenees, and other storm-prone regions. In the Canary Islands, winds from the Northwest will blow, shifting towards the north.
