SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE APR. (Press Europa) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife expressed on Wednesday its expectation that the Government of the Canary Islands will approve “as soon as possible” the decree to complete the transfer process of Teide National Park to the Insular Corporation. This would conclude the implementation of delegated responsibilities and allow for the recruitment of agents and administrative staff that are “necessary.”
“What has occurred in recent years is that the Government of the Canary Islands has not allocated positions to the National Park, and until that responsibility is passed to us, we cannot summon a single position or bolster it with agents from other parts of the island,” stated Pedro Millán, the island’s insular director of the Cabildo de Tenerife.
When questioned regarding the need for additional agents in the park, he emphasised that the reinforcement would need to exceed at least ten positions, due to the “level of occupancy” that the park experiences. Currently, he noted, there are five agents present.
Specifically, Pedro Millán clarified that the transfer of the National Park would not only facilitate the addition of more dedicated agents, but also enhance its oversight with additional personnel from the island. “We can integrate the entire island so that Teide is no longer an isolated area, where the professionals of the Cabildo operate separately from those of the National Park,” he remarked.
In fact, he indicated, this is also a demand from the workers. “The employment benefits of Cabildo staff are not currently available.”
“What we are requesting from the Government of the Canary Islands is that the transfer occurs as soon as possible, to also fulfil the objectives and what the president, Rosa Dávila, desires, which is to strengthen the National Park at all levels,” Millán concluded.
The island director of the natural environment added that the Cabildo de Tenerife “does not require financial support from the Government of the Canary Islands; it simply needs to formalise the process to enable the recruitment of positions.” What the Cabildo seeks is for the administrative and legal aspects to be resolved promptly. (…) Without that transfer, we cannot initiate any recruitment,” he stated.
