The President of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, announced on Wednesday that in the upcoming weeks, she will convene with mobile network operators to discuss the feasibility of establishing communication nodes within the archipelago, thereby preventing system outages like the one experienced on Monday for three hours following the blackout on the Peninsula.
During a press briefing outlining the agreements from the Governing Council, she emphasised the necessity for the Canary Islands to possess a network that ensures “security.” Despite having Canalink, an underwater cable connecting the islands to Europe and Africa, the system still relies on the connection nodes of the mobile operators.
“This is why we intend to schedule a meeting in the coming weeks to explore the possibility of establishing the connection nodes here,” she added.
