Tenerife Implements 70 Smart Sensors to Safeguard Against Forest Fires

The Cabildo de Tenerife is set to implement 70 smart sensors to oversee 94% of the island and mitigate forest fires, as communicated by the island president, Rosa Dávila, alongside the third vice president, José Carlos Acha, during a press briefing this Wednesday.

Rosa Dávila stated that the Governing Council has sanctioned the tender for a project that encompasses a sensor network across the island, enabling “more precise and rapid” monitoring of the territory.

The goal is to further enhance emergency management and environmental stewardship, with the project representing a financial investment of approximately 1.4 million euros and an anticipated execution timeframe of three years.

As explained by the Cabildo de Tenerife, this system is designed to detect forest fires at the earliest opportunity, optimise the use of natural resources, and bolster vital public services such as transport and water management through the deployment of 70 sensors distributed throughout the island’s geography.

Furthermore, during the Governing Council session, the final evaluation report of the Interdepartmental Commission for gender equality, conducted by the Insular Directorate of Equality and Diversity, was reviewed, confirming a 97% compliance rate with the initiatives planned for 2024.

Dávila remarked that these figures signify a strong commitment from the Cabildo towards genuine equality and a step forward for a more just and equitable island.

Additionally, José Carlos Acha mentioned that the Governing Council, within the Ministry of Culture, announced the approval of an increase of nearly 120,000 euros for the adaptation of the old cinema project in Fasnia to comply with new technical regulations.

Consequently, the overall investment for this initiative, part of the 2016-2028 Cultural Infrastructure Plan, stands at 3.2 million euros.

Moreover, in support of traditional sports, a fund of 75,846 euros was approved to complete the financing of the local wrestling initiative, which is managed by the public company Ideco.
