TENERIFE 29. (Press Europa) –
The Government of the Canary Islands has declared that it has commenced the gradual restoration of access to telephone communications across the islands.
This was communicated by the Canarian Executive via a post on the social media platform ‘X’, where it also noted that the operational centres in both provinces are “fully functional”, although some “difficulties may still be experienced when trying to contact 112”.
This announcement follows the disruption experienced by the Canary Islands in their telecommunications systems, affecting both mobile internet and fixed-line calls. The Executive has activated the Canary Islands Territorial Protection Plan (Platca) due to the “emergency situation” caused by the failure of the telephone network.
Additionally, according to the information available thus far, the archipelago has maintained its electricity services throughout this process. The Canary Islands have been insulated from the issues that arose due to the total blackout that affected the Iberian Peninsula since midday on Monday, which also impacted telecommunications.
