The Santacrucero Barrio de la Salud Alto is set to undergo a comprehensive urban transformation, aiming to create a more accessible environment while also providing residents with a substantial outdoor area for leisure or sporting activities. The planned renovation works, which are expected to commence this year, were approved yesterday by the Governing Board, following the green light for two tenders related to enhancing accessibility between Güímar and Cornisa streets, as well as the square of the 1,000 homes and the adjacent public spaces.
The mayor of the capital, José Manuel Bermúdez, stated yesterday that “both initiatives, totalling 5.7 million euros, have been funded 50% by the Cabildo, as part of an agreement to update the essential services in this area, thereby improving the quality of life for residents.”
The councillor highlighted that “the construction works will now be tendered for the Plaza de las 1,000 homes and its vicinity, where children’s play areas and fitness zones will be established, while preserving a central space for community enjoyment and recreation, suitable for hosting local events or various outdoor leisure activities and sports.”
He further noted that “similarly, necessary measures will be taken to enhance accessibility for residents residing between Cornisa and Güímar streets, located at the lower section of this square.”
On her part, the president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, remarked that “the Santa Cruz Governing Board’s decision to put these two projects out to tender marks a significant day for the inhabitants of the High Health neighbourhood, as these initiatives exemplify collaboration between the Cabildo and the City Council in addressing local issues.”
Dávila reiterated that “once again, it has been demonstrated that coordinated efforts yield positive results, as these works will also facilitate measures for water management, thus adhering to the regional hydrological plan. The execution of internal sanitation networks in the urban nucleus, the establishment of a separate network with new storm drains, and the replacement of drinking water supply pipes will be carried out.
Renewal
Meanwhile, the Councilor for Works and Infrastructure, Javier Rivero, expressed that “from the municipal sector, through the Investment Programme Transforma Santa Cruz, the bidding for these two projects aimed at the urban regeneration of this segment of the High Health neighbourhood is underway. This area has suffered from deterioration and lacks urban appeal and needs to address the existing sewer deficit.”
The Works Mayor clarified that “the repair and treatment of all containment walls affected by moisture from gardens and leaking joints will also be implemented, which entails the installation of sanitation networks, a separate network for rainfall, and the replacement of supply pipes.”
The Councilor for the Health-La Salle District, Zaida González, mentioned that “the upcoming projects will address longstanding issues arising from the existence of combined rainwater and wastewater networks. Moreover, it is imperative to enhance the universal accessibility of the environment with works that will benefit the High Health neighbourhood.”
