La Laguna Offers Up to €5,000 for Homes Connecting to Public Sewer System

The Council of La Laguna, via the Mixta Teidagua Company, announced on Tuesday that it is accepting applications for aid of up to 5,000 euros per residence in the municipality that is linked to the Public Sewerage Network.

According to a statement from the Council, these benefits are funded by a grant from the Cabildo de Tenerife, the details of which can be found on the Official page of the Mixta Teidagua Company, with the total amount of aid exceeding one million euros.

Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, the mayor of La Laguna, announced that the application period will remain open until 24 May.

“It is crucial for residents to access this funding and ensure the prompt treatment of their wastewater, thereby contributing to reducing the environmental impact on our surroundings,” the mayor stated.

Ángel Chinea, the Councillor for Works, Infrastructure and Accessibility, noted that “a study by Teidagua has been conducted.”

The official also clarified that the activities that can be financed through this grant include technical inspections of facilities, the cleansing of septic tanks, wall enhancements, demolition and replacement of paving, installation of new pipes, execution of pumping stations, connections to the network, or the collection and management of waste generated from these operations.

This financial aid is directed towards all citizens of La Laguna, particularly in the Northeast Region, where connectivity to the municipal network is notably low. Specific areas, such as Tejina, have reported 251 existing pools; El Calvario (War Valley) has 204 pools; and Vernetta (Lower Punta del Hidalgo) has recorded 76 pools.

Criteria for Receiving Aid

The City Council of La Laguna has specified that applicants for this aid must hold a valid contract for the property, designated for domestic use, with the Municipal Water Supply Service of La Laguna.

Moreover, these infrastructures must be situated within 100 metres of the public sewer network to which they intend to connect.

Lastly, the property and the land where the new connection to the network will be established should not be subject to any circumstances that would obstruct the necessary licensing for carrying out the works.

If the applicant does not own the property, the aid request must include explicit authorisation from the owner to proceed with the connection and carry out the necessary works.

In the case of buildings, the community of owners may submit an application, provided it is officially constituted and that the proposed connection serves a communal purpose for the entire building.
