SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE APR. (Press Europa) –

The director general of Relations with the Administration of Justice of the Government of the Canary Islands, Mari Carmen de León, formalised the appointment of Carolina de las Heras as the new head of the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences (IMLCF) in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on Tuesday.

The Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) announced the appointment of Carolina de Las Heras as director of the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in its edition dated Tuesday, April 15, under the order of the Minister of Public Administration, Justice and Security, Nieves Lady Barreto.

This announcement concludes the selection process conducted through a public call for the provision of this position for free designation, which commenced on February 14, allowing officials from the Forensic Physicians’ body to participate, according to a statement from the Ministry.

Carolina de las Heras has distinguished herself as the first woman to assume the role of director at the IMLCF of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, following two years of leadership experience, initially as deputy director from April 2023 to July 2024, and subsequently overseeing the Institute’s functions.

The newly appointed director holds a degree in Medicine from the University of La Laguna and has been an official in the National Corps of Forensic Physicians since August 2011.

Furthermore, she served as a representative on the Board of Directors of the Physicians of Tenerife from 2012 until April 2024 and has occupied roles within the Department of Polyclinic Section and the Headquarters of the Section of Forensic Psychiatry.

De las Heras has also facilitated the training of internal doctors specialising in Psychiatry and new entrant doctors of the XXX promotion within the Forensic Clinic and Forensic Psychiatry Service.
