In spite of the light rain, the residents of La Laguna were able to honour their traditions yesterday during the Resurrection Sunday celebrations, partaking in the customary procession from Santo Domingo. The route, slightly shortened, saw a significant turnout of worshippers, which continued with the midday Mass at the Cathedral, conducted by diocesan administrator Antonio Pérez along with the outgoing bishop Bernardo Álvarez.
Following this, and with no further threat of rain, the procession of the Blessed Sacrament brought the Holy Week in La Laguna, the religious hub of the island, to a splendid conclusion.
The diocesan administrator, Antonio Pérez, conveyed in his Pascual greetings the message of “hope” symbolised by the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He spoke of the “transformative nature of the resurrection,” which, through “solidarity, compassion, dialogue and profound mercy,” creates a “vibrant diocesan community”. Furthermore, Pérez mentioned the upcoming arrival of the new bishop, Eloy Santiago, and urged the faithful and the public at large “to welcome him with joy.”
A real miracle has happened; many photos,at last !
