The Villa de Tegueste is set to celebrate the 57th edition of La Romería in honour of San Marcos Evangelista on Sunday, April 27, a significant event for the municipality. Over the years, it has become a standout occasion for enthusiasts of traditional customs, thanks to the dedication to routes, carts, the flower dance, and the active involvement of local residents.
The festivities will commence at 11:30 hours with the celebration of a solemn Eucharist. Following the service, the image of San Marcos Evangelista will be displayed in the Church Square to bless the pilgrims, routes, and livestock.
At 13:00 hours, La Romería will make its way through the main streets of the municipality, including La Audience, El Carmen, Nueva, Prebendado Pacheco, Plaza San Marcos, El Pinar, and La Placeta. Participating in the event will be carts, livestock, the flower dance, and folkloric groups from various parts of the archipelago.
Later, at 16:00 hours, San Marcos Square will host a verbena featuring the Golden Band and Latin Sound orchestras.
Enhancements to Public Transport
In light of the pilgrimage, the City of Tegueste has announced improvements to the public transport service on the line 052 operated by Titsa, which links the lagoon with Tegueste. This initiative was requested by Mayor Ana Mena in the recent Security Board meeting, aiming to facilitate access during peak attendance days.
The amended schedule for line 052 is as follows:
- Departure from La Laguna: 07:00 / Arrival in Tegueste: 07:25
- Departure from La Laguna: 11:30*
- Departure from La Laguna: 12:30 / Arrival in Tegueste: 12:55
- Departure from La Laguna: 13:30*
- Arrival in Tegueste: 16:45
- Departure from La Laguna: 17:20 / Arrival in Tegueste: 17:45
- Arrival in Tegueste: 18:45
- Departure from La Laguna: 19:50 / Arrival in Tegueste: 20:15
Services marked with an asterisk will commence from the Rotunda of the Civil Guard and will have stops in the relief and carrier areas, ensuring access for local residents while avoiding congestion.
Eladia López, the Councilor for Fiestas, emphasised the cooperation with Titsa and stated that this initiative aims to enhance travel conditions for both locals and visitors during the San Marcos festivities.
Road Day
On Monday, April 28, starting at 14:00 hours, the Road Day will be held, featuring an exhibition of the carts involved in the pilgrimage, located on La Audiencia Street.
At 18:00 hours, the Plaza de San Marcos will be the venue for another verbena, showcasing the delectable orchestra and the Atenia group.
