Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 18 Apr. (Press Europa) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife, in partnership with the local councils of Buenavista del Norte and Santiago del Teide, will inaugurate this Friday a discretionary transport service for all hikers and visitors aiming to explore the Masca ravine.
The president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, states that “this initiative, which has been in development for over a year at the Rural Park of Teno, aims to organise arrivals, mitigate congestion, and enhance safety for visitors and residents alike, as well as freeing up parking spaces.”
She further explains that “the goal is to establish sustainable mobility that aligns with tourism in order to protect a delicate ecosystem of significant ecological importance like Masca.”
The use of this service for those travelling the Masca Barranco route is compulsory for access to the descent, which will be overseen by the Visitors Centre.
Tickets for this service will be available solely through the official website Caminobarrancodemasca.com, with the transport cost incorporated into the entry fee for the Masca ravine.
Therefore, if visitors arrive in Masca without using the bus service, they will be unable to navigate through the ravine.
This regulated transport service will incur a fee for its provision, meaning that from this Friday onward, those wishing to traverse the pathway of the Masca ravine must utilise this new mandatory discretionary transport service.
Operating hours for this service are Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with buses departing every 20 minutes from the designated collection point in Santiago del Teide, specifically at the Titsa stop adjacent to the City Council.
The local council has set up a car park at the municipal cemetery, allowing visitors to leave their vehicles and proceed to the stop where a bus, with a capacity of 18 passengers, will be waiting.
The transport fee has been factored into the price of the entry ticket to the Masca ravine, and tickets can only be purchased via the official site: Caminobarrancodemasca.com.
Without a stamped entry ticket from the bus, access to the ravine is prohibited, as per the Cabildo’s statements.
Pricing varies according to the residency status of the visitor. Adults and children who are residents of Tenerife will not have to pay for the descent to the Masca ravine nor for the obligatory transport.
Canarian resident adults will be charged 3 euros for the ticket and 4 euros for the bus, with children paying 1.5 and 2 euros respectively.
As for adults not residing in the Canary Islands, they will need to pay 28 euros for entry, alongside 10 euros for transport, while children will be charged 14 euros plus 5 euros for the bus ticket.
