The City Council of La Laguna has initiated a channel that enables residents to confidentially report potential significant criminal and administrative violations concerning the Consistory, as part of efforts to combat corruption.
The Presidency Department has stated that these reports can be made either “anonymously or with authorship specified, ensuring that in any event the monitoring of the case and the confidentiality of the complainant or informant will be upheld.”
“With this new communication channel, we strengthen our battle against corruption,” collaborating with the residents of La Laguna to prevent and identify “potential fraudulent activities that often go unreported due to fear of retaliation,” commented Mayor Luis Yeray Gutiérrez in a statement.
Citizens can report via a dedicated link on the Internet about “any event that breaches regulatory provisions,” allowing the City Council to “process or escalate it promptly to the Public Prosecutor’s Office or other relevant authorities,” he added.
The municipal councillor for Presidency, Carla Cabrera, has urged citizens to use this complaints channel responsibly, as “reporting or publicly disclosing information while being aware of its falsehood is regarded as a severe infraction,” attracting penalties ranging from 30,001 to 300,000 euros.
A designated individual appointed by the City Council will ensure the investigation of potential irregularities and assess them.
Should the complaint feature a contact email address, notifications regarding the investigation or the eventual outcome will be communicated.
If the complaint is not made anonymously, the identity of the complainant will be protected and can only be disclosed to the judicial authorities, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, or the relevant administrative authority within the context of a criminal, disciplinary, or sanctioning investigation.
