Public Transport Required for Mast Ravine Access Starting This Friday

The Cabildo de Tenerife has declared that starting this Friday, a discretionary transport service for travellers, which is mandatory, will be established for those wishing to explore the Masca ravine.

This service, operated in cooperation with the councils of Buenavista del Norte and Santiago del Teide, aims to organise arrivals, alleviate traffic congestion, enhance the safety of both visitors and residents, and free up parking spaces.

“This initiative promotes sustainable mobility that aligns with tourism, ensuring the preservation of a delicate natural environment of great ecological significance, such as that found in Masca,” remarked Rosa Dávila, the president of the Cabildo.

The use of this service by users of the Masca Barranco route is compulsory for accessing the descent, which will be regulated by the Visitors Centre.

Tickets will be available solely via the official website Caminobarrancodemasca.com; the transport fee will be incorporated into the cost of the entrance ticket to the Masca ravine.

The council has emphasised that visitors who arrive in Masca without using the bus will not be permitted to traverse the ravine.

The service will run on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with departures every 20 minutes from the pick-up point in Santiago del Teide, precisely at the existing Titsa stop adjacent to the Town Hall.

The local council has established a parking facility at the municipal cemetery, allowing visitors to leave their vehicles and proceed to the stop where a bus, accommodating 18 passengers, will be available.

Pricing varies based on the visitor’s residency: individuals from Tenerife will incur no charges for the descent into the Masca ravine or the mandatory transport. Canarian adults will pay a ticket fee of 3 euros in addition to 4 euros for the bus, while children will be charged 1.5 euros and 2 euros, respectively.

As for adults not residing in the Canary Islands, they will need to pay an entrance fee of 28 euros, alongside a transport fee of 10 euros, while children will be charged 14 euros plus 5 euros for the La Guagua ticket.
