The Local Police of Granadilla de Abona, via the Information and Response Group (GIR), apprehended an individual for an alleged offence against public health last Friday, the 11th. The operation took place in San Isidro when officers spotted the suspect driving a vehicle after gathering intelligence regarding his potential connection to small-scale drug trafficking. The GIR requested the assistance of unit K9 to intercept the individual and carry out the necessary searches.
During the operation, the canine officer indicated the genital area of the detainee, prompting him to surrender a fabric bag containing eight doses of what appeared to be cocaine. Additionally, 155 euros in banknotes of various denominations, reportedly linked to criminal activities, were confiscated. Following the intervention, the officers arrested JVM for his alleged involvement in an offence against public health, specifically for the prior possession intended for drug trafficking.

The Councilor for Security, María Candelaria Rodríguez, spoke positively about the operation, emphasising that “actions like this showcase the high levels of coordination, training and dedication of our local police, particularly units such as the GIR and the K9 Unit, which are crucial in the battle against drug trafficking.” Furthermore, she noted that “we will continue to enhance the resources available to ensure the safety of our communities.”
