SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE APR. (Press Europa) –
The Cabildo, via the Department of Culture and Museums of Tenerife, has this Wednesday sanctioned an investment of 1,853,769 euros for the foundational project and consolidation works of the Baudet Theatre, located in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Vice President Lope Afonso stated that the timeframe for this initiative is twelve months. The enhancements involve the improvement of structural systems, consolidation of the building’s framework, implementing structural reinforcement to the concrete framework, and repairing and restoring metal profiles on the roof. Additionally, adjustments, insulation, and waterproofing of the flat housing roof, the flat scenic cash cover, and the replacement of the fibre cement cover in the seating area will take place, alongside optimising the opaque façade envelope, compartmentalisation, pest management systems, disinfection, and cleaning efforts.
This project is supported by the Report of the Historical Heritage Administrative Service of the Cabildo de Tenerife, dated December 27, 2024, regarding its feasibility, as well as a favourable report from the Municipal Urban Planning Office of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, dated April 8, 2025.
The Baudet Theatre, inaugurated on May 25, 1944, stands as one of the first endeavours of Tenerife architect José Enrique Marrero Regalado and is celebrated as “an icon of the grand cinemas” that has endured up to the present day, as emphasised by Culture Minister José Carlos Acha.
In constructing its amphitheatre, the same riveted beams used in the Eiffel Tower were employed, and throughout its history, the building has served various purposes but has since definitively closed its doors.
“Time and adverse weather conditions have severely impacted its facilities, necessitating a project in the previous term to restore its roofs and columns to prevent further deterioration. In response, we have championed investment in this project that will enable us to revive a space dedicated to culture in all its forms, with the potential to transform it into a versatile venue,” he remarked.
