SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE APR. (Press Europa) –
The deputy president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Lope Afonso, has advised against the repair of the submarine emissary in Punta Brava, as well as the reopening of Playa Garden, which has been closed for swimming due to waste since last July.
During a press conference to discuss the decisions made by the Governing Council, he emphasised that “it is not necessarily connected” because there are various factors that may hasten the reopening of the beach, such as the “upgrading” of the pumping stations nearby the purification and Punta Brava station, where the council has invested one million euros. Additionally, the establishment of a tertiary treatment system for wastewater aimed at agricultural use, specifically for the Santa Cruz raft, will reduce the volume of wastewater that can be discharged through the emissary.
“We anticipate that in approximately a month and a half, when the completion of that project is expected, the status of the treatment plant could improve significantly. This highlights the commitment that this council maintains towards a situation that arose in the port of La Cruz, which has been reiterated by the General Directorate of Public Health on multiple occasions during the last term,” he stated.
Afonso explained that the tender for the Emisario’s project, valued at €2.7 million with an execution timeframe of 16 months, was declared void because the companies that showed interest were unable to meet the technical criteria. Therefore, it has been re-tendered through an emergency channel with more flexibility while still ensuring the quality of service.
As such, he noted that the file is already available on the Public Sector Contract platform, allowing for the envelopes to be opened throughout May, enabling an assessment of the bids submitted.
