SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE APR. (Press Europa) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife reopened four routes within the Teide National Park on Wednesday following the clearance of ice and snow, enhancing their accessibility.
Specifically, access to route number 9: Teide-Pico Viejo-Carretera TF-38, from the junction with the aforementioned path to its connection with route number 12 (old peak viewpoint); Route number 12: Mirador de Pico Viejo (entirely); Route number 23: black regatones (entirely), and route number 28: Chafarí (entirely) has been reopened.
Conversely, the following paths or sections remain closed to the general public: Path 7: White Mountain-Pico Teide, the stretch from the summit of White Mountain to the junction point of paths 7 and 11 at the viewpoint of the fortress (Mirador de Pico Viejo); Path 10: Bravo Telesforo (entirely) and Path 11: Mirador de la Fortaleza (entirely).
This restriction does not apply to federated mountain enthusiasts and certified professionals or tourism enterprises, who must comply with a set of requirements to gain access, as noted by the council in a statement.
Individuals with a valid mountain federation card are required to possess the necessary basic winter gear (technical clothing, crampons and piolet) and must be registered on the Tenerife On application to obtain the requisite permission.
Moreover, access is permitted for professionals and individuals engaged freely in their work, who are registered in the Tourism Registry of the Canary Islands Government under hiking, mountaineering or trekking activities on Tenerife, and who guide groups of up to 15 participants per guide.
Thus, guides are mandated to possess the certification required to operate in Teide National Park and the appropriate qualifications for their professional activities.
All individuals taking part in the activity (guides and visitors alike) must carry the compulsory basic winter equipment (technical clothing, crampons and piolet) and must also register on the Tenerife On application.
Online booking system
To maintain the integrity of the natural environment and monitor visitor numbers, the Cabildo implemented an online booking system in January 2025 via the Tenerife On (App or Web) for pathways including the Viejo-Mirador Teideos-Pico Paths of the Teide Noses and 32 Abeque), Path 23: The black regattons, and path number 28: Chafarí.
Additionally, to access path 10 Telesforo Bravo, which connects the Rambler with the summit of Teide, a permit must be obtained through the National Parks Reserve Central: www.reservasparquesnacional.es
The Cabildo de Tenerife has also reopened the route known as Risco de las Pencas, located on the western slope of the Ruiz ravine (San Juan de la Rambla), as well as route 43 within the cliff of the cylinder head (Garachico), the PR-TF-58 trail in the rural park of Teno, and the PR-TF 8-TF 8 that spans from Aphur-Playa, Tamadite-Taganana, in the Anaga Rural Park.
These trails were impacted by the ‘Olivier’ storm and are now accessible to the public.
