The Holy Week in San Cristóbal de la Laguna, known as one of the most iconic towns in Tenerife, is among the most significant and traditional religious festivities in the Canary Islands. Designated as a Tourist Attraction in the Canary Islands, this occasion is noted for its solemnity, cultural richness, and profound historical roots.

Throughout this week, the streets of the historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage site, transform into a vibrant stage filled with devotion, sacred art, and architectural heritage from the 16th to 18th centuries. Processions take place amid the quiet reverence of attendees, traversing the colonial layout of the city, infusing the atmosphere with spirituality and reflection.

During Lagunera Holy Week, over twenty brotherhoods participate, carrying treasured religious images, many considered baroque masterpieces. Notable events include the Magna Procession on Good Friday and the meeting on Resurrection Sunday, drawing both devotees and visitors from across the island and beyond.

This festivity is not merely an act of faith but also an invaluable cultural expression, preserving age-old traditions handed down through generations, establishing the lagoon as a spiritual and cultural focal point during this period. The week’s commencement features numerous activities leading into Monday, April 14, Tuesday 15, and Wednesday 16, the initial three days before the major celebrations.
