Santa Cruz de Tenerife 13 Apr. (Press Europa) –

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is gearing up to commemorate the various processions and sacred events taking place in the capital of Tenerife during Holy Week, featuring a schedule comprising over 40 festive activities across the municipality’s five districts.

Accordingly, the Council highlights in a statement that during these days, the streets of Santa Cruz will be filled with floats, brotherhoods, and penitents, showcasing devotion and expressions of faith that are now integral to the city’s tradition and history.

During these religious celebrations, the arrival of thousands of visitors and worshippers from all corners of Tenerife is anticipated, participating in the more than forty festivities throughout this Holy Week in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

For this Sunday, the procession of the Lord of the Burrita is particularly noteworthy, commencing at 11:00 a.m. after receiving blessings with bouquets and palmitos at the San José parish and proceeding through the streets Méndez Núñez, Ulises Guimerá Castilano, Teodoro Ríos, Santiago, El Greato, Méndez Ñúñez, until it returns to the parish.

The La Concepción parish will host, at 8:15 p.m. on Monday, the procession of the Lord of Humility and Patience, which will traverse the main thoroughfares of the capital, starting from Santo Domingo and continuing through Cruz Verde, Castillo Street, Valentín Sanz, Villalba Hervás, San Francisco, Cruz Verde, with a return to the parish via Santo Domingo.

On Tuesday, one of the most significant religious events of Holy Week will unfold in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Beginning at 4:00 p.m., traditional carpets will be prepared on the street of the tribulations.

Later, at 8:15 p.m., the procession of the Lord of Santa Cruz will commence from the San Francisco de Asís parish, following a route that takes in Villalba Hervás, Valentín Sanz, La Rosa, Santa Rosalía, Santiago, San Francisco Javier, San Miguel, and Lord of the Tribulations.

At this juncture, the prayer and traditional offering from the residents of El Toscal will make their way back to the parish of San Francisco via the streets Santiago, Santa Rosalía, La Rosa, Valentín Sanz, and Villalba Hervás, retracing the same path to the parish.

On Wednesday, the meeting procession will occur from 8:15 p.m. in central Santa Cruz, featuring the statue of the Nazarene departing from the main parish of La Concepción and progressing through Santo Domingo, Cruz Verde, Castillo, Valentín Sanz, and Plaza del Príncipe, where the meeting is set to happen.

Concurrently, the figures of the Virgen de la Amargura and San Juan Evangelista will depart from the parish of San Francisco de Asís, ascending via Villalba Hervás, turning at San Francisco, and continuing through Ruiz de Padrón, San Juan Bautista, and Emilio Calzadilla to converge with the statue of the Nazarene at Plaza del Príncipe. The return journey will take them back along Villalba Hervás, San Francisco, Cruz Verde, and Santo Domingo.

Thursday will notably celebrate the procession of our Father Jesus Captive, the central figure of the Holy Week poster in Chicharrera, along with La Esperanza Macarena.

This will commence at 8:30 p.m. from the La Concepción Parish, proceeding down Santo Domingo Street and onto Candelaria, Imeldo Serís, General Gutiérrez, Plaza de España, La Marina, and Villalba Hervás, with a stop at the parish of San Francisco de Asís before returning via Cruz Verde and Santo Domingo Street.

Among the varied processions on Friday, the one for Our Lady of the Angustias stands out, departing at noon and regarded as one of the oldest and most iconic processions of Holy Week in the city. This procession is noted for its solemn and respectful atmosphere, where participating women typically wear black mantillas.

Its route will begin at the parish of Our Lady of the Pilar, continuing through Suárez Guerra, Emilio Calzadilla, San Francisco, Castillo, Valentín Sanz, and returning through El Pilar.

At 8:00 p.m., the Magna Procession of the Holy Burial will commence from the matrix parish of La Concepción, starting its journey from Santo Domingo Street, Cruz Verde, Castillo – where additional processional figures will join – and continuing through Valentín Sanz, Villalba Hervás, San Francisco, Cruz Verde, and once more returning along Santo Domingo Street.

Traffic Restrictions and Parking Limitations

The organisation of these processions necessitates implementing traffic restrictions and parking limitations that will revert to normal once the processions conclude.

Both these traffic adjustments and the rest of the Holy Week programme are detailed on the Santa Cruz City Council’s website: www.santacruzdetenerife.es.
