Santa Cruz de Tenerife 11 Apr. (Press Europa) –
The Health Spokesman for the Socialist Parliamentary Group, Miguel Ángel Pérez del Pino, has demanded the resignation of Carlos Díaz, the director of the Canarian Health Service (SCS), for being absent for the third time from the Parliamentary Commission of the Regional Chamber at the request of the Socialists to account for the process of stabilisation of health personnel. He described this absence as “unacceptable and intolerable.”
“Senior officials in any democratic government have a duty to report to their parliaments, and that of the Canary Islands should be no different,” he stated.
According to Pino, “he adjudicates and participates, making decisions on the processes while simultaneously presenting himself as a candidate with superior conditions compared to others, leveraging his position.”
The Socialist Group exited the commission as a protest against the continuous disregard shown by the SCS director and the adviser towards the oversight and opposition responsibilities of this Parliament.
“Do you believe your position is a personal domain, exempt from democratic oversight? What is it that you have to conceal? What is the source of your fear?” he questioned in a statement released to the press.
For Pérez del Pino, one of the senior officials of this government, “shielded by the adviser, is merely displaying a lack of respect for this Chamber and the deputies that comprise it.”
The Socialist Group believes that the Canary Islands deserves a health service that is managed with transparency and respect for its institutions.
“Over 12,000 positions are pending stabilisation while the individual responsible for this process is solely focused on himself,” he remarked.
In his view, “this man is not fit for the role; he is a vice-adviser who avoids being questioned, constantly seeking excuses to evade his obligation to appear before this chamber, effectively hiding.”
Thus, the socialist deputy maintains that “he cannot remain in his position for another minute; if he is not equipped to perform his duties in every respect — which includes standing before this legislative chamber when summoned — he must resign immediately.”
For Pérez del Pino, “if you lack the decency to appear, if you do not honour democratic institutions, and if you scorn the citizens who fund your salary, you should step aside. We demand your immediate resignation due to your persistent refusal to appear before this chamber, and should you lack the dignity to resign, the President of the Government of the Canary Islands should dismiss him.”
