The Cabildo, through the Ministry of Mobility and Roads, announced yesterday that it has successfully installed the linking module that connects Trinity Avenue to the pedestrian walkway at the Father Anchieta roundabout in La Laguna. The work was completed on the evening of last Monday and involved assembling the module, which weighs over 50 tonnes and measures 36 metres in length, thus forming the northern access to the walkway.
The Insular Road Councillor, Dámaso Arteaga, remarked that “the installation process was quite delicate, as this component posed the greatest challenge.” Arteaga noted that this module will be complemented by additional access points, such as the eastern pathway that will connect directly to the lagoon interchange, featuring a ramp, steps, and direct access to the walkway. The construction of this access will involve transporting 200 tonnes of material across nine special shipments. Likewise, the southern access, referred to as Loop, will contribute an additional 160 tonnes to the overall structure and necessitate eight special transports, thereby completing the network of access points to the roundabout.
Once these access paths are completed, final touches will be made to the infrastructure, including the application of anti-slip treatments on the walkway surface, the removal of current pedestrian steps, and the environmental integration of the surrounding area. Upon the completion of these stages, the pedestrian ring at the Father Anchieta roundabout will be fully operational by the start of the 2025-2026 academic year.
With an investment of €10 million, this infrastructure project aims to reorganise traffic at the Father Anchieta roundabout, one of the busiest intersections on the TF-5.
