Santa Cruz de Tenerife 9 Apr. (Press Europa) –

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has moved to revise the Municipal Emergency Plan (PEMU), which is currently active and in a state of alert from midnight on Wednesday, including the closure of municipal facilities and the suspension of activities starting from 6:30 pm today.

This decision stems from the alert issued for rainfall by the General Emergency Directorate of the Canary Islands Government, along with the weather information provided by AEMET.

Accordingly, the forecast indicates that persistent rainfall will affect the metropolitan area during the early hours of Wednesday night, as noted by the City Council in a statement.

Additionally, the Canary Islands government is also maintaining pre-alerts for coastal phenomena (from 00:00 hours), storms (from 06:00 hours), and wind (from 12:00 hours), all dated April 9.

The City Council warns that this situation has prompted various municipal services to escalate preventive measures to mitigate potential risks to the public.

Thus, from 6:30 pm onwards, the closure of municipal facilities that attract the public, whether for sports, cultural activities, educational purposes, or any other leisure and recreational events, will be enforced.

Furthermore, any activities that involve public attendance and were scheduled to take place after 6:30 pm will also be suspended.

The Santa Cruz City Council has advised residents to heed the recommendations pertaining to this type of risk and to remain informed about the ongoing alert status.

In this regard, they have recommended avoiding travel unless absolutely necessary, and if travel is required, to proceed with caution; to pay attention to weather forecasts and heed the guidance provided by the authorities along with staying updated through official sources and the media.
