The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has taken steps to revise the Municipal Emergency Plan (PEMU), which is currently active in a state of alert from 00:00 on Wednesday. This update includes the closure of municipal facilities and the suspension of activities, commencing at 6:30 pm today due to the Impact of Borrasca Olivier.
This decision is grounded in the alert declaration for rain issued by the General Emergency Directorate of the Canary Islands Government, alongside the meteorological data provided by AEMET.
Additionally, the Canary Islands government is maintaining pre-alerts for coastal conditions (from 00:00), storms (from 06:00), and wind (from 12:00), all set for April 9.
The City Council has cautioned that this situation has led various municipal services to augment preventive measures to mitigate potential risks to the public.
As a result, starting from 6:30 pm, the closure of municipal facilities that involve public attendance—such as sports, cultural, educational, and leisure activities—will be enforced.
Furthermore, any planned activities that require public attendance after 6:30 pm will also be suspended.
The Santa Cruz City Council has encouraged residents to heed recommendations regarding this type of risk and remains vigilant of the ongoing alert status.
In light of this, they advised against unnecessary travel and, if travel is essential, to proceed with caution; stay updated on weather forecasts and follow guidance from authorities. Citizens are also urged to remain informed through official channels and media.
