Santa Cruz de Tenerife 8 Apr. (Press Europa) –
The Deputy President of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Lope Afonso, declared on Tuesday his intention to run for the presidency of the Popular Party of Tenerife following the convening of the Insular Congress on May 24 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife by the insular board of directors.
Afonso stated to the press that he aims to spearhead a “victorious initiative, which becomes the preferred party of Tenerife and its residents.”
Among the motivations he expressed, Afonso highlighted his “complete alignment with the values and principles of the Popular Party,” a principle that has been a “constant” throughout his career and which he has endeavoured to “demonstrate” in the various public roles he has occupied thus far.
In addition, Afonso mentioned that he is stepping forward at a time when the Popular Party holds “significant governmental responsibilities” across the municipalities of Tenerife and particularly within the Cabildo. This situation, he argued, necessitates a coherence between the party’s organisational policies and its programme offerings, aligning them with the implementation of policies that exemplify the party’s commitment to its constituents.
The prospective candidate for the presidency of the PP of Tenerife regarded this as a “favourable time” for the party, aiming for it to become “the preferred choice among the citizens of Tenerife” due to effective management and a political approach that fosters certainty, trust, and security, especially in the face of the current highly polarised political climate.
“I am convinced that the PP possesses the right resources to earn the majority support from the people of Tenerife, thereby serving as an instrument of transformation,” Afonso remarked, adding that he is striving to “bolster a victorious initiative that contributes to securing substantial victories across the Canary Islands, with Manuel Domínguez poised to become the next president of the Autonomous Community.”
Lope Afonso also expressed his appreciation for Emilio Navarro, who will remain as president until May 24.
“He is a commendable individual, well-known for his loyalty, commitment, and trust, alongside an immense effort that has resulted in the Popular Party being one of the most significant political forces in Tenerife today,” he acknowledged.
