The Fasnia City Council has announced a competition for the Award for the execution of the rehabilitation, remodelling, and pedestrianisation works of the Plaza de la Constitución, as well as parts of Calvario, San Joaquín, and the Cemetery.
«This project will also entail the renewal of drinking water pipelines and the underground installation of electrical networks in the affected areas,” stated the mayor, Luis Javier González, who describes this as a “vital project that will transform the heart of Fasnia,” making it “more welcoming, accessible, and equipped with improved services. This work will signify a significant change.”
Part of the Municipal Cooperation Plan of the Cabildo de Tenerife, the project titled «Reformation of Plaza de la Constitución and Resurfacing on El Calvario Street» is being tendered with a budget of 1,076,500 euros and has a completion period of 11 and a half months. The deadline for submitting bids will end at midnight on the following day.

Project Details
The project, drafted by the architect Gumersindo Urquiza Alcorta last November, includes provisions for a vehicle parking area at the rear of the San Joaquín church, equipped with a charging point for electric vehicles. Plans also encompass a playground, accessible toilets, resurfacing of the square and surrounding streets, installation of furniture and lighting, as well as addressing the accessibility challenges.
It is proposed to collect some of the rainwater within the square itself.
The perimeter of this space will be transformed by alternating gardens with benches to provide both greenery and restful areas. Adjacent to the kiosk, a playground will be situated. A pergola will provide necessary shade for the park and incorporate an accessible toilet that will serve both areas. Accessible routes will be constructed from the main road and El Calvario street.
Regarding traffic, the accepted plan essentially consists of a distinct lane for vehicle circulation centred along the streets, while the remaining cobbled surfaces will remain for pedestrian use, with all pavements level with the road, ensuring there are no rises.

Parking Facilities
With regard to parking facilities, the narrowness of the streets renders continuous parking strips unfeasible for this purpose. Therefore, a parking zone has been created at the start of San Joaquín Street on an adjacent plot provided by the City Council, while a one-off widening near the end of San Joaquín Street will help recover additional spaces. In the area near the petrol station, a stay strip will be established, integrating the design of gardens and benches as planned for the Plaza de la Constitución, featuring a tree canopy for shade.
Luis Javier González emphasises that the project “not only involves the pedestrianisation and aesthetic enhancement of the municipality’s centre but also entails the improvement of essential services, including the water supply network and the underground installation of electrical systems.” The mayor clarified that vehicle access for residents will still be permitted in the area, “but this will lead to a pedestrian zone that will improve Fasnia’s image for tourists and create a space for the enjoyment of residents. I am confident that it will also boost economic activities in leisure and dining.”
