Pinolere, situated in the municipality of La Orotava, will showcase the finest cheese in the Canary Islands on the weekend of this month. The Canary Islands Cheese Fair is celebrating its fourteenth edition, featuring an exciting array of activities centred around this beloved product of Canarian cuisine.
This regional event is organised by the Pinolere Cultural Association with the support of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo de Tenerife, the City of La Orotava, and various private organisations.
On the weekend of the 12th and 13th, visitors can take part in children’s workshops which continue to generate great enthusiasm among the young ones and yield excellent outcomes. There will also be exhibitions of native breeds from the Canary Islands, including donkeys, black pigs, cows, sheep, camels, bees, pigeons, chickens, goats, dogs, and birds, as well as gatherings of the garafiano dog Lobito Herreño and Palmero Ratonero. These will include sporting competitions and exhibitions.
In addition, there will be cheese tastings, demonstrations, workshops, a monographic contest for the Canarian dam, and a collaboration between the El Chaboco de Pinolere Parranda and the Guágaro de Tías folkloric group (Lanzarote). A tribute will be held for Cabrero José Domingo González Cabrera, recognising his contributions to the livestock sector, along with live music and numerous other activities, all of which can be found directly in the programme for the XIV Fair, a must-see for cheese enthusiasts.
The exhibition will be open on both Saturday the 12th and Sunday the 13th from 10 am to 7 pm. During the event, a tribute will be paid to Ruth Lozano Rodríguez, the promoter of the Insular contest of Tenerife, for her ongoing support of the Pinolere Cheese Fair. The minutes of the jury for the awards and winners of the 12th Insular Contest of Tenerife Pinolere 2025 will also be read, with the event taking place the day prior at the House of the Wine.
Early tickets can be purchased through Tickety, and upon presenting them at the venue, attendees will receive a cheese wedge. The mayor, Francisco Linares, praises the “potential” of this “well-established” regional fair, noting that “in addition to being an attraction for families and friends, it serves as a platform to highlight our identity and Canarian culture, whilst promoting the primary sector and encouraging support for the consumption of local products sourced from within a 0-kilometre radius.”
