SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 3 APR. (Press Europa) –

The Technological and Renewable Energy Institute (Iter), an entity under the Cabildo de Tenerife, alongside the Canarian Electric Energy and Mobility (EAVE) company, has been awarded provisional funding of €1,385,209 through the ‘Value Chain’ programme, a crucial initiative aimed at enhancing industrial innovation within strategic sectors tied to energy transition and sustainability.

This grant from the Institute for Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE) acknowledges and supports two groundbreaking projects that aspire to transform the energy landscape of the Canary Islands and establish Tenerife as a national benchmark in sustainability and technological advancement, as conveyed by the corporation’s statement.

Accordingly, the ‘Second Life’ and ‘Soluciona’ projects will receive backing. The former initiative is focused on the recovery of electric vehicle batteries, specifically emphasising the reuse of critical components.

Conversely, ‘Soluciona’ centres on the production of lightweight photovoltaic panels, an innovative solution that aims to enhance the efficiency and adaptability of solar installations within island environments such as the Canary Islands.

Juan José Martínez, the Minister of Innovation, Research and Development at the Cabildo de Tenerife, underscores the significance of this support for advancing the technological and sustainable industry on the island, stating: “Tenerife must spearhead the transition towards an energy model that prioritises innovation and sustainability. The approval of this funding for Iter and EAVE confirms we are proceeding in the right direction, investing in projects that not only generate growth but also bolster our energy independence and promote a circular economy.”

Additionally, Antonio Sánchez Miranda, the director of R & D+I at EAVE and CEO of Second Life, emphasises the value of this assistance: “This recognition not only validates the technological potential of the projects but also fosters a collaborative vision, transforming the Canary Islands into a sustainable innovation laboratory. Both EAVE and Second Life are committed to ensuring this funding translates into tangible, scalable solutions with a global impact.”

The ‘Value Chain of Equipment Necessary for the Transition to a Net Zero Emissions Economy’ programme, part of the recovery, transformation, and resilience (PRTR) plan of the Government of Spain and funded by the European NextGenerationEU, is aimed at fostering innovation and industrial advancement in strategic sectors.

In this initial call, €297.3 million has been allocated to 34 projects across 12 autonomous communities, with the intent of enhancing technological capability and sustainability in the shift towards a zero carbon emissions economy.
