The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has announced that, following an inspection conducted by the Sanitary and Laboratory Service of the Tenerife Health Area within the Canarian Health Service, a temporary closure of the Los Charcos bathing area in Valseco has been mandated due to identified deficiencies in the facilities.
The bathing area was inaugurated a year ago during a ceremony attended by the President of the Canary Islands Government, Fernando Clavijo, the President of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, the Mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, the President of the Port Authority, and the Minister of Tourism for the Regional Government, Jessica de León, along with numerous other officials from CC and PP. The construction cost amounted to 19 million euros.
The local government is now compelled to adhere to the closure directive to ensure the safety of visitors.
Among the deficiencies highlighted are issues with the lighting points in the bathrooms designed for individuals with disabilities, as well as the urgent need for a thorough cleaning of the access routes to the bathing area, where algae have been discovered both on the ground and on the walls, creating a hazardous slippery surface.

There is also a call to address the presence of rust on the railings and to either replace or reinforce them in certain areas of the installation to ensure user safety when accessing the facilities.
In this context, the Mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, states that efforts are already underway to resolve these issues promptly and to restore the facility for public use as soon as feasible.
Meanwhile, the Councillor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife, confirms that cleaning operations have commenced in the area, and urgent requests have been made to the heritage department to address wiring problems.
Furthermore, repairs are currently being undertaken on the railings and stairs to enhance safety.
The closure is temporary and will remain in effect until all issues are rectified, according to Tarife.
