The PSOE of Tenerife will convene on Friday, April 4, and Saturday for its 18th Insular Congress in San Miguel de Abona. During this event, the Secretary General, Tamara Raya, will propose and seek approval for the new Executive Commission that will steer the socialist initiative on the island in the forthcoming years.
In a communiqué, the party has stated that it will tackle the primary challenges facing Tenerife, such as “access to suitable and affordable housing, significant mobility and congestion issues, defining the tourism model, land management, the state of public health, and equality policies,” among various other pertinent topics.
Tamara Raya has remarked, “In this congress, we aim to address crucial matters for the residents of Tenerife. We are not here merely to discuss our organisation but to highlight issues that affect us all, such as the availability of public housing, the current state of health that impacts many elderly individuals, and the traffic jams, both on the North Highway and the South, which concern the entire community.”
The Congress, set to occur at the Barceló Hotel, will see the involvement of the Secretary General of the PSOE of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, and the spokesperson for the Federal Executive Commission, Esther Peña, alongside public officials and organisational representatives from across the island.
The event will kick off on Friday 4 at 6:30 p.m. with a welcome ceremony, followed by a panel discussion titled Tenerife with + strength, where mayors and socialist representatives will focus on equality policies.
At 7:30 p.m., the Congress will be formally inaugurated with the reading and voting on organisational reports and a speech by former insular general secretary, Pedro Martín.
On Saturday 5, three thematic panels are scheduled; With + well-being at 10:30 a.m., centred on housing, health, and employment from a gender perspective; With + future at 11:30 a.m., focused on infrastructure, mobility, climate change, and island projects; With + balance, also at 11:30 a.m., regarding tourism, the primary sector, territory and landscape, and water management, all approached with a gender lens.
The congress will conclude at 5:30 p.m. with speeches from Esther Peña, Ángel Víctor Torres, and Tamara Raya, at which point the composition of the new insular executive commission will be revealed.
