Santa Cruz de Tenerife 2 Apr. (Press Europa) –
The Government Headquarters in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will host an interministerial meeting to manage the distribution of unaccompanied minors applying for asylum, following a Supreme Court ruling that mandates the central government to resolve the situation within ten days.
This meeting is scheduled to commence at 09:00 and will be attended by the President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, and the Ministers of Territorial Policy and Migrations, Ángel Víctor Torres and Elma Saiz, respectively. The head of childhood and youth, Sira Rego, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Interior, will participate remotely.
A key point of contention between the two governments is the classification of over 1,200 asylum seekers. The Canary Islands maintain that these individuals should not be included in the distribution stipulated by the decree law reforming the foreigner law, as they fall under state jurisdiction, while the central government aims to incorporate them.
