Canarian Coalition Unites with PP and Vox to Form Government in Granadilla

Following the motion of censure initiated by the Canarian coalition on March 26 in Granadilla de Abona, located in southern Tenerife, the newly appointed mayor, José Domingo Regalado (CC), has established a new government group for the term 2025-2027. This coalition includes the PP and Vox, where the latter will manage five departments, including Civil Protection and emergencies, as well as securing the position of deputy mayor.

According to a statement from the City Council, the newly formed structure comprises eight mayoral roles and two special delegations.

In addition to the aforementioned roles overseen by the Vox Municipal Group, José Gregorio Sanabria, the councillor for this group, will also manage the sectors of modernisation and new technologies, primary sector matters, along with complaints and citizen participation. This role will be delegated to the group’s second mayor, Adaisy Arias.

The councillor from the Popular Party, Marcos Antonio Rodríguez, who previously governed alongside socialist Jennifer Miranda and signed the motion of censure, will assume the primary mayoral position and oversee public services, works, environment, and beaches.

The next mayoral position managing security, urban planning, contracting, and animal welfare is assigned to María Candelaria Rodríguez González. Meanwhile, Rubén García Casañas will take charge of the Economics and Finance, Economic Development, Social Services, Housing, Health Promotion, and Sports portfolios as the fourth mayor.

Eudita Mendoza Navarro secures the fifth mayoral role, handling tourism, senior citizens, equality, and diversity. Raquel Morales Izquierdo, as the sixth mayor, will manage education, youth, neighbourhood dynamisation, transparency, accessibility, and consumption. The seventh mayoral position, overseeing culture, festivities, communication, artistic heritage, and institutional relations, is designated to Carlos Abismael Díaz Barreto.

Lastly, the eighth mayoral role, along with responsibilities for internal regime, personnel management, employment, local development agency, and mobility, has been awarded to Carmen Delia Mesa Cabrera.

The other special delegation, apart from that designated for Vox, will focus on artistic heritage and sports, with Ramón Fredi Oramas Chávez appointed to this role.

Mayor José Domingo Regalado González expressed that a new chapter is commencing “with great enthusiasm” and with a government committed to collaborating closely with other administrations and the community to transform Granadilla into a progressive municipality.

“We aim to enhance the internal structure of the local administration to provide improved public service, and we will revive those projects that had been neglected in the past two years,” stated the new councillor.
