The CC and PP factions within the Cabildo, which form the island’s governing body, will present a motion during today’s plenary session aimed at promoting various measures for advisory services, the safeguarding of property rights, and revitalising the housing market in Tenerife, as per a statement released. The representatives of CC and PP at the Cabildo, José Miguel Ruano and Lope Afonso, elaborated yesterday that the proposals encompass the goal of facilitating, in collaboration with local councils, the establishment of an insular information and advisory office for citizens concerning housing matters.
This office, as outlined in the motion, will be technically focused on assisting with judicial or administrative processes linked to the safeguarding of property ownership rights, as well as providing information about legal rights and options regarding property occupation and offering mediation in eviction scenarios.
The motion further urges representatives within the Congress of Deputies to urgently promote a reform of the state’s regulatory framework governing housing issues that, among other priorities, “ensures the effective protection of property rights.” They also call for this regulatory revamp to “streamline the processes for reclaiming real estate or addressing occupations and to provide fiscal incentives for renting out vacant properties, removing legal uncertainties that dissuade owners from placing their properties on the market.”
In the motion, PP and CC additionally request that the Canary Islands Government enhance collaborative agreements with major property holders and expand the Canary Housing Plan, placing greater emphasis on encouraging the construction of affordable housing.
