Santa Cruz de Tenerife 28 Mar. (Europa Press) –
The Civil Guard has identified the suspected individual responsible for the beheading of a dog in Tegueste (Tenerife). The man is under investigation as the alleged perpetrator of a serious case of animal cruelty, as reported on Friday.
The dog’s owner had lodged a complaint with the Civil Guard after discovering the severed head of his pet outside the entrance to their home, as noted by the security agency in an official statement.
According to the Civil Guard, the collaboration of officers from the main Tacoronte division and the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) patrol has proven essential in the investigation.
The coordinated efforts to gather information and evidence from the location, coupled with technical analyses provided by SEPRONA specialists, enabled the recovery of the canine’s remains and facilitated the identification and investigation of the alleged offender.
The legal proceedings initiated have been submitted to the Court of Instruction of the Guard of San Cristóbal de la Laguna.
Potential prison sentences of up to two years
Under article 340 bis of the Criminal Code regarding crimes against animals, anyone who, by any means or method, including sexual acts, causes the death of a domestic animal, whether tame, domesticated, or temporarily or permanently under human control, faces a prison sentence ranging from twelve to twenty-four months.
Additionally, a special disqualification penalty of two to four years may be imposed, preventing the individual from engaging in any professions, trades, or activities related to animals and from possessing animals.
These penalties can be increased if weapons, tools, objects, or methods that pose a danger to the life or health of the animal were used.
