The Mantecs Technology Park is set to host the April Fair of La Laguna from April 4 to 6, an event that has enjoyed considerable success in its previous iterations, showcasing the best of Andalusian folk culture with high participation rates.
This year’s programme was unveiled during a press conference held on Friday by Dailos González, the councilor for Fiestas de La Laguna, alongside Miguel Guijarro, president of the Feria de Abril de Tenerife Association, and also attended by the Councilor for Culture, Adrián del Castillo.
“The April Fair has established itself as a significant event in our municipality’s cultural and leisure calendar,” remarked Dailos González. “It allows us to experience a slice of Andalusia right here in La Laguna, engaging with its traditions, dances, and distinctive performances, as well as enjoying culinary tastings.” The councilor expressed gratitude for “Miguel Guijarro’s enthusiasm in bringing this event to life” and acknowledged the contributions of the various entities involved in this edition.
Miguel Guijarro, in turn, expressed appreciation for the unwavering support from the La Laguna City Council right from the outset of the project. He highlighted that the fair was created to showcase Andalusian culture, particularly through the efforts of flamenco schools based in Tenerife. “During the inaugural edition, 4,800 people attended, and this number rose to 6,000 in the second edition, which fills us with optimism for this third edition,” he noted. “We aim to leverage this momentum to establish the fair as a cultural landmark in the Canary Islands, where around 40,000 Andalusians reside.”
Guijarro detailed that the Fair will span an area of 2,500 square metres within the Park of the Mantecs, featuring a 750-square-metre marquee and a 140-square-metre dance floor where various competitions and performances will take place. Participation will include schools, clubs, and associations such as Ana Lamadrid, Ana Manrique, Estefanía Luque, Peña Flamenco, Peña Cavia, the Galician Centre, the Cultural Association Al Alba, Isabel Andreu, and Laura Guillén.
The Fair will commence on Friday, April 4, at 6:00 p.m., with the opening ceremony attended by Jorge Vázquez Calderón, General Director of Andalusia Global—an agency under the Ministry of Tourism of the Junta de Andalucía responsible for coordinating over 300 Andalusian entities residing outside the Autonomous Community—as well as Paquita Marín Ortiz, president of the House of Andalusia in Barcelona.
Entry to all events is free. Friday night will run until midnight, featuring a notable highlight with the official lighting of the fair and a performance by the Flamenco Calle Viana group showcasing traditional Sevillian dance.
Saturday will host twelve continuous hours of activities from midday until midnight, including workshops in Rumbas, Sevillanas, and Castañuelas, alongside children’s performances, a flamenco equestrian show, Sevillian competitions, and various musical acts.
On Sunday, April 6, the Fair will reopen at 12:00 p.m. In addition to performances by the participating schools and associations, Sevillanas dancing will continue, culminating in the award presentations for the various competitions held throughout the fair, which will conclude at 6:00 p.m.
