The initial specimens of Red Tuna in Tenerife for this fishing season arrived at the port of Los Cristianos on Thursday. The three captured specimens are substantial, weighing 310, 320, and 376 kilos.
The photographs taken by photojournalist Mercedes Menéndez are quite revealing, as they showcase the impressive size of the tunas, which were brought to shore by the Fisheries Gran Sol and caught by fishermen Yeray Vera Clemente and Alan Amaral.
The red tuna fishing season commenced in January and this year will have nine additional days compared to the previous year for the capture of this species as it migrates through the waters of the Canary Islands Caladero, according to the resolution published by the General Secretariat of Fisheries in the Official State Gazette (BOE).
The resolution outlines two fishing periods for this species in 2025, which will run from January 20 to May 30 and from June 4 to December 31, as announced by the Regional Ministry of Fishing in a press release.
