The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, is set to meet on April 2 at the Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) in Madrid to unveil the proposal for the installation of smart traffic signals at the accesses of the North Highway (TF-5), as she disclosed this Thursday in an interview with Radio Club Ser Tenerife.
During the interview, Dávila revealed that, with an investment of 4 million euros for the initial phase, the Cabildo aims to enhance the most critical access points with this initiative, thereby improving vehicular flow and curtailing waiting times.
Specifically, the system will dynamically adjust to real-time traffic, managing intersections towards Tacoronte according to vehicle volumes to prevent congestion on the main roads and facilitate smoother transport, the island’s president noted.
“If everything progresses as planned, we could put it out to tender later this year, utilising these 4 million euros, beginning with Tacoronte, and it could be operational by 2026,” she specified.
