The head of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, is scheduled to meet on April 2 at the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) in Madrid to present the initiative for the Installation of smart traffic lights along the access points of the Northern Highway (TF-5), as she revealed during an interview with Chain ser on Thursday.
During the conversation, Dávila noted that with an initial investment of four million euros, the Cabildo intends to enhance the most critical access points through this initiative, aiming to improve vehicle flow and reduce waiting periods.
More specifically, the system will adapt to real-time traffic, managing intersections leading to Tacoronte based on the number of vehicles, which will help to prevent congestion on the main routes and facilitate smoother transportation, as the island’s president explained.
“If everything proceeds smoothly, (…) we could put this out to tender within this year, utilising these four million euros for the first phase towards Tacoronte, with activation expected in 2026,” she detailed.
