Santa Cruz de Tenerife 25 Mar. (Europa Press) –
The Vice President of the Government of the Canary Islands and leader of the PP in the Islands, Manuel Domínguez, has reiterated his support for the decree-law concerning the treatment of unaccompanied migrants, although he has not specified how his party’s deputies in Congress will cast their votes.
“The interests of the Canaries take precedence over my personal interests,” he replied to a query from the socialist group during the Plenary Session of Parliament, emphasising that “the Canary Islands come first.”
Domínguez addressed the Socialist leader, Nira Fierro, accusing her of being “unscrupulous” in her unwavering allegiance to the general secretary of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, and the directives of her party. “I do not seek anything, I aspire to nothing but that, which is the significant distinction between you and me,” he stated.
He highlighted that the president of Castilla La Mancha, Emiliano García Page, has opposed the decree-law mockingly, suggesting a questionnaire for evaluation. He assured that the Canarian government would do “everything” possible to implement the new legislation and that the Canary Islands “deserve a proper response” to the “ongoing harm” inflicted by the PSOE on the archipelago.
Fierro challenged the Canarian deputies of the PP in Congress to endorse the validation, a duty which Domínguez, as the party president, has delegated. She emphasised the “ineffectiveness” of the Canarian People’s Party by acknowledging that the political agreement was achieved collectively.
“They are ineffective; they have an opportunity. Honestly, I urge you to reflect, to be beneficial for the Canaries and the Canary Islands, and to ask those individuals you placed on the electoral lists to vote in favour out of responsibility,” he remarked.
