The Department of Social Welfare and Quality of Life of the La Laguna City Council has recently issued a notice in the Official Gazette of the Province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife regarding social assistance aimed at helping with the costs of the Real Estate Tax (IBI) for primary residences. Applications must be submitted within one month, and the maximum amount eligible for subsidy will be 300 euros.
The councillor in charge of this department, María Cruz, stated, “This aid will primarily target individuals and families with limited financial means who face challenges in managing these kinds of annual expenses, covering 100% of the fee paid in the previous year.”
The mayor emphasised that “this contribution represents significant support for the financial wellbeing of numerous households with low incomes, which can be enhanced by several additional support programmes we have in place to address various circumstances of heightened vulnerability within the municipality.”
Those interested may already submit their applications for this aid through the General Registry of the City of La Laguna, at the decentralised offices of the mayor’s holdings, or via the electronic portal accessible through the Consistory’s website: www.aytolalaguna.es.
The overall financial assistance allocated for the IBI payment will adhere to the guidelines specified and will be drawn from the budget provisions included in the annual General Budgets of the La Laguna City Council.
Required Documentation
Applicants must submit a properly completed application form, a photocopy of the IBI receipt holder, proof of registration for third parties, and documentation to verify their socioeconomic status relevant to their specific circumstances (such as pensioners, self-employed individuals, employed persons, unemployed individuals, students over 16 years, etc.).
If the application does not fulfil the criteria set forth in the guidelines, the applicant will be prompted to rectify any discrepancies within a maximum of ten days. Throughout this process, the social services of La Laguna may collect any necessary documentation to process the application.
The aid will be provided through the relevant compensation process relating to the IBI amount due for the following year, which will be confirmed in the notification of the grant agreement. Should the IBI have already been settled and compensation is not feasible, the beneficiary will receive the corresponding amount directly.
