The City Council of La Laguna, through its Department of Citizen Security, intends to update the Municipal Emergency Plan (PEMU) this year, collaborating with all security agencies, professionals from various sectors, the Foundation of the University of La Laguna, and community representatives.
Recently, the inaugural coordination meeting took place to discuss the enhancements to this document, necessitating a review of the 2014 edition. Attending the meeting were the area’s mayor, Badel Albelo; the technical director of the Mayor’s Office, Óscar Olave; along with representatives from the ULL Foundation.
Albelo emphasised the importance of revising this PEMU to align it with contemporary requirements and risks, aimed at bolstering response strategies and planning for adverse events that could jeopardise the health and well-being of our citizens.
The mayor also noted that this undertaking will be segmented into various phases, which will include participatory sessions where experts, professionals, and citizens can share their insights.
The engagement of local and national police forces, civil protection, emergency specialists, and community representatives will be essential. “The aim is to ensure that the PEMU remains cutting-edge in safety, particularly concerning adverse weather conditions such as severe rainfall or high temperatures.”
