Santa Cruz de Tenerife 20 Mar. (Europa Press) –
The National Police of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has introduced the “Express DNI”, a semi-automatic processing system that, via a multiple expedition module (ME), expedites the renewal of the National Identity Document (DNI) and diminishes waiting periods.
This system is fitted with cutting-edge biometric capture technology, enabling the acquisition of photographs and fingerprints from citizens at the time of renewal, thus negating the need to provide a physical photograph, as detailed by the police force in an official statement.
This new approach does not entail a different type of documentation but provides an opportunity to hasten the process while maintaining the same level of service, ultimately minimising both time and costs. The primary goal is to enhance administrative efficiency and resource utilisation.
The system has been rolled out gradually across Spain, and within the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, it is accessible in the following police stations:
– Provincial Police Station of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
– Local police station in La Laguna.
– Local Police Station of Puerto de la Cruz.
– Local police station in South of Tenerife.
System Updates
Among the features of the “Express ID” is the expedited processing time it facilitates, as it allows the simultaneous issuance of two documents, thereby streamlining the renewal process.
Furthermore, the procedure has been simplified, as there is no need to secure a prior appointment for processing, which enhances accessibility to the service. Additionally, there’s a financial advantage since citizens are not required to provide a photo, as the module generates and automatically incorporates it into the document.
The renewal fee is 12 euros, payable in cash. Contactless payment options are anticipated to be available shortly.
The system enables the capture of biometric data and customises the access key to the document’s electronic certificates, ensuring the security of the process.
This new method coexists with the traditional system, allowing citizens the flexibility to choose the option that best meets their requirements.
Requirements for Processing the ‘Express DNI’
To take advantage of the “Express DNI”, it is necessary for the identity document to be within the renewal timeframe, specifically when there are 180 days or fewer remaining until expiration.
Moreover, personal information must remain constant, such as address, and the DNI chip should be in optimal condition to be read.
The National Police emphasises that renewal must be completed upon expiration of the document and not due to loss or theft, and that fingerprints must be recognisable by the system.
