The PSOE Secretary of the PSOE in Puerto de la Cruz, Zebenzuí González, has lodged a complaint with the National Police alleging threats and harassment from the first deputy mayor and councillor of the Portuense Citizen Assembly (ACP).
The Socialists have specified that the incident took place on San Felipe Street, near the Plaza del Charco, when González was with his wife and two witnesses. At that moment, Hernández allegedly confronted him with insults and threats.
The PSOE in Puerto de la Cruz expresses its “full support” for the Secretary of Organisation and condemns the incident, asserting that such behaviour should not serve as a political tool.
“All red lines are crossed when, in the middle of the street, one is insulted, threatened, and demeaned with such impunity, especially when this verbal and threatening aggression comes from a public representative,” the PSOE stated.
Furthermore, the Puerto de la Cruz branch of the party commends the actions of the two witnesses who intervened to assist the Secretary of Organisation and his wife, ensuring that the verbal aggression did not escalate into physical violence by taking shelter in a nearby commercial establishment.
The PSOE reiterates its commitment to fighting against any form of violence or threats, both physical and verbal, directed at any individual, irrespective of their political affiliation, to uphold article 16 of the Constitution.
Consequently, they share with their members and supporters their “rejection of any form of physical and verbal provocation that may arise from this councillor in the future, which, should the complaint progress to the Court of Instruction, could result in a judgement for a minor offence or, depending on the health impact on González and his wife, trigger previous investigative proceedings.”
ACP rejects the allegations
In response, ACP “categorically” denies this account of events, labelling the accusation as a “mean and undemocratic act” that is part of a “persecution and dismantling strategy” orchestrated by the PSOE administration. They noted that Marco González was excluded from the mayoralty and stated that the leadership of this formation has engaged in a public smear campaign, both on the streets and social media, culminating in an unacceptable outcome.
ACP has asserted that “appropriate legal measures are being initiated to protect” the honour of the mayor and his family “from the repeated attacks, both personal and political, which we believe aim to disrupt the normal functioning of political life in our municipality with tactics inconsistent with a party that claims to uphold democratic values.”
