The chair of the Canarian Chamber, Astrid Pérez, convened this Saturday in the province of Córdoba with the president of the Parliament of Andalusia, Jesús Aguirre, as part of the initiatives undertaken during the XI Legislature aimed at enhancing connections between Spanish legislative assemblies.
During the meeting, the leaders of the southernmost parliaments in Europe discussed topics such as the potential for re-establishing the voice of the European Regional Legislative Assemblies within the European Committee of the Regions, as noted in a communication released to the press by the Parliament of the Canary Islands.
“In my capacity as president of La Calre (Conference of the Regional Legislative Assemblies of Europe), I view the recent appointment of the president of the Andalusian Government, Juan Manuel Moreno, to have representation in this crucial body as vital, enabling participation in the decisions made in Europe that impact us in the Canary Islands and other regions,” stated Astrid Pérez, who is also the head of the Canary Parliament.
Pérez emphasised how “crucial” it is to collaborate “in harmony” with other autonomous communities, reinforcing the democratic role that “Spanish parliaments must fulfil.”
