Miranda claims that “Clavijo style” involves manoeuvring individuals like “chess pieces” in pursuit of political and economic agendas.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 14 Mar. (Europa Press) –
The PSOE has levelled accusations against the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, for being the instigator of the motion of no confidence that has been endorsed by the City Council of Granadilla, alongside CC, PP, and Vox, highlighting that “this is an agreement initiated by the head of the Government.”
This was articulated during a press conference by the Insular General Secretary, Tamara Rayo, who appeared alongside the mayor, Jennifer Miranda, and the leader of the Socialist Group in the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, to emphasise that the agreement did not originate from “municipalism,” as Clavijo asserts, but rather “was formulated within the presidency of the Canary Islands government.”
“We have a president who captivated us this week in the ‘Debate on the state of nationality’ with various slogans, such as claiming he is neither left nor right, but a Canarian. It is curious that a Canarian, a nationalist, would ally with a party that dismisses the autonomy system, namely Vox. He set certain red lines, which it is evident have been entirely disregarded.”
Rayo further criticised Clavijo for “selling the identity of the Canarian coalition for the sake of attaining more power.”
Conversely, he remarked that the PSOE is a party that stands by its promises, fulfilling agreements it enters into.
Pedro Martín emphasised that there were no valid grounds in Granadilla de Abona justifying the submission of a motion of no confidence aimed at altering the municipality’s course, as was promised by both the PSOE and the Popular Party.
Nonetheless, he asserted that “the Canarian coalition has formed a government by ignoring its red lines and collaborating with Vox, a party they claimed stood in stark opposition to what they envisioned for the Canary Islands.”
In line with this, he mentioned that the “normalisation” of Vox by the Canarian coalition is not an isolated incident.
A “marriage that is bound to last,” states Pedro Martín
“Vox endorses the budgets of the Cabildo, and the Cabildo endorses all Vox amendments. This leads us to foresee that this alliance is likely to persist. How peculiar that this is endorsed by a political figure who has claimed that Vox represents precisely the opposite of what he desires for the Canary Islands. Notably, he voted against specific aid, solely for the Canary Islands, amounting to over one billion Euros post-pandemic.”
Jennifer Miranda noted that this motion of no confidence originates and evolves within the Government’s presidency, where the spokesperson and mayoral candidate, along with former mayor, José Domingo Regalado, is an advisor, often seen “strolling through the Granadilla de Abona centre, despite being employed on a salary of 60,000 Euros a year.”
“Today we heard a council member from the Popular Party, one of the signatories of the motion of no confidence, acknowledge that this is not due to any management differences,” but rather to a broader strategy, she elucidated.
Miranda acknowledged that many residents are “frustrated” but urged them to “maintain hope, including those who voted for the Canarian coalition and are disheartened by their party’s tendency to go through the back door and, in addition, collaborate with the far-right; the hope in Granadilla de Abona lies with the Socialist Party, as we anticipate that by 2027 the PSOE will govern with an outright majority.”
“The residents of Granadilla must understand that the future of their community is not currently being determined in Granadilla. The future of Granadilla is in the hands of one man in the presidency of the Canary Islands government, operating in the Clavijo style, treating the citizens of the Canary Islands like pawns on a chessboard, moved at will to serve his personal interests, and the economic interests of his party,” underscored Miranda, who reminded everyone that the PSOE has triumphed in all electoral contests in Granadilla de Abona since 1987.
