Vox will join the new municipal administration of Granadilla de Abona, located in the south of Tenerife, following the signing of its two councillors, alongside the Canarian Coalition and the PP, in a motion of censure that emerged this Wednesday against the socialist mayor, Jennifer Miranda, aimed at “eliminating the socialist policies” from the municipality.
Vox has described Miranda’s leadership as “catastrophic” and has accused her of leading the municipality “into a genuine decline.” “They have betrayed the people of Granadilla, and in response to this outrage, our political duty is to work towards rectifying this situation,” stated the far-right party.
The councillors from Santiago Abascal’s party (now under investigation for potential illegal financing), José Sanabria González and Adaisy Arias Pérez, will be joining the municipal government, taking on “the political responsibility of working together to ensure the municipality progresses steadily, placing the City Council at the service of the needs and aspirations of its citizens, whilst making a determined effort to achieve shared goals.”
The far-right party has emphasised that, “despite the existing ideological differences” among the supporters of the motion of censure “the common interest prevails.” “In light of the closure of doors to other administrations and unilateral decision-making, we propose dialogue and consensus as the means to attain the results that the citizens of Granadilla de Abona require.”
In the elections held on May 28, 2023, the Granadilla de Abona City Council was constituted with 11 PSOE councillors, who won the elections; 10 from the Canarian Coalition; two from the Popular Party; and two from Vox, which made its entry into this City Council with the backing of approximately a thousand voters.
