Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 11 Mar. (Europa Press) –
The spokesperson for the Gomera Socialist Grouping (ASG), Casimiro Curbelo, stated on Tuesday that the Canary Islands government is adopting the “right approach” with an “extraordinary” assessment of the situation across the islands.
In remarks to reporters following the address by the Canarian President during the ‘Debate on the State of Nationality’, he concurred with Clavijo, indicating that the Canary Islands will experience the repercussions of global changes. As such, he fully supports the “commitment” to future discussions among expert panels and the 51 proposed measures.
Curbelo highlighted that the Canary Islands is a community facing “numerous challenges and obstacles,” necessitating collaboration and planning among the cabildos and municipalities. “Everyone must get involved,” he emphasised.
He expressed concern regarding the “overlook” by Clavijo concerning the new regional financing system, asserting that the Canary Islands “cannot face the future” with a budget exceeding €11.6 billion, especially as the housing market is currently experiencing significant “stress” due to holiday rentals.
Curbelo called for the extension of La Palma’s fiscal incentives model to El Hierro and La Gomera, beyond merely reducing fuel prices. “These islands will not endure without a fiscal strategy that attracts and secures new investments,” he remarked.
According to Curbelo, if the Canary Islands do not focus on initiatives addressing demographic challenges, they will encounter “difficulties.”
